WORKING TOGETHER

Excellence through High Standards and Academic Rigor

For our children to become fully-engaged global citizens, it’s key that we equip them with the tools they’ll need to participate with the world.  I believe this means providing robust learning environments tailored [centered around] each child's unique needs, gifts, and background.  This means fostering an environment where the skills and confidence to bring those talents to life can flourish.  This means creating an environment that considers each child as a whole person in the context of their family, our community, and the world.  One sure way to achieve this is to provide the necessary training and support for our staff, teachers and administrators that will insure their confidence in our system and motivate these invaluable members to continue reaching our district's goals.

Excellence through Fiscal Responsibility and Stability

District 65 has been fortunate to have had the fiscal capacity to provide a wide range of educational opportunities and supports in our schools. Today, District 65 faces revenue and expenditure challenges that require a strategic response.  As an engaged community with a transparent process, we can plan for a fiscally responsible and stable future while prioritizing what we value most—high quality education for every child.

Excellence through Community Engagement & Collaboration

I believe in the value of our collective community voice, especially when it comes to our schools. Education is a community process, and schools should represent our highest and most inclusive values.  I believe in the expertise and commitment inherently embedded in our schools via our passionate and dedicated District 65 teachers, staff, and administrators.  Additionally, caregivers, parents and guardians are children’s first and most important teacher, and, as such, educating the whole child requires an engaged and trusting partnership between family, community, and school.

Excellence through Culture, Climate, Diversity & Inclusion

Long-term success is closely tied to both academic and social-emotional well-being.  District 65 is investing in making strides in this area—emphasizing restorative justice, working to build inclusive school climates, exploring data that both acknowledges disparities in achievement and receipt of disciplinary infractions, as well as prioritizing professional development around culturally relevant instructional practices and curriculum.  It’s also important that we anticipate and counteract the impact of potential counterproductive federal policy changes in the coming years.  In order to continue being a district that attracts community members from far and wide, we must prioritize the value to equitably educating every child, the whole child.
